Known Recordings: Audience recording exists.
Set: I Will Still be
Laughing, See You Later, Somebody to Shove, Black Gold, Summer of Drugs, We 3,
Bittersweetheart, Cartoon, String of Pearls, Misery/(Silly Love Songs), No Time
for Waiting, Close, Runaway Train, Closer to the Stars, School's Out,
Candy From a Stranger, Just Like Anyone.
Encore: To Mother You, Ramblin' Rose.
Notes: Tramps, Soul Asylum's New York "home"
the previous few years, closes its doors not long after this show. The O'Jeez
set was a surprise, another band scheduled to open was given the boot in favor
of The O'Jeez. Dave sings with Michal during her set on "The Light,"
and she joins Soul Asylum on Somebody to Shove, singing the second verse
herself. Dave is reminded before the show that they played Silly Love Songs and
Ramblin' Rose at Tramps the year before. Soul Asylum offer the crowd the option
of Alice Cooper or John Lennon; School's Out is played. "Thus Spake
Zarathustra" is played on the PA before Soul Asylum enter the stage during
this run of shows.
Opening Act: Michal, The O’Jeez.
Known Recordings: Audience recording exists.
Set: I Will Still be Laughing, See
You Later, Somebody to Shove, Black Gold, Summer of Drugs, To My Own Devices, We 3,
Bittersweetheart, Cartoon, New York Blackout, Gone 'Til November, Misery,
Blood Into Wine, No Time for Waiting, Close, String of Pearls, Passing Sad Daydream
(partial), Runaway Train, Closer
to the Stars, How Do You Sleep, Candy From a Stranger, Just Like Anyone.
Encore: Rhinestone Cowboy, ("Can't go surfing in the city of
lakes..."), Stranger.
Notes: Michal and The O'Jeez switch places from the previous night, as
The O'Jeez open this one. They play similar sets from the night before, except
the O'Jeez play all of Thank You. Michal again is joined by Dave for "The
Light," and then she surprises him by announcing he will play drums. She
also does the Mexican Hat Song, and throws kaleidoscope-like trinkets into the
audience. She has two guys join her on stage, and they make no effort to dance
or do anything until prompted by Michal's friends. The unusual opening sets were
a preview of what would come later in the evening..
Soul Asylum's set starts off similar enough to the
previous night also, but with To My Own Devices thrown in. Gone 'Til November is
not on the setlist but is played because the band did not want to play Misery
after NY Blackout. Dave introduces Blood into Wine as being written by "an
aspiring song writer." String of Pearls is by request for the guy who said
"please," and Passing Sad Daydream appears to be by request also. How
Do You Sleep is finally played. the encore features Dan singing a surfer
song (of origin unknown to us), and Stranger (how long was it since this song
was played last?) Dave appears to be coaching Chris on keyboards during the
encore. Michal and a fellow known as "The Pope" join Soul Asylum on
guitars for the encore. Considered by some in attendance to be one of Soul
Asylum's best shows ever.
Opening Act: The O’Jeez, Michal.
Known Recordings: Audience recording exists.
