The Appeal of Ruins

Thomas Cole "The Course of Empire: Desolation"

"Among the things I like about this avocation are that the people interested in it are (1) self-selected and (2) very few in numbers, by the nature of the topic. I suppose the ruins of ancient Rome (for example) draw significant numbers of people, mostly because they're so old, but the ruins on Tom Rinaldi's and Rob Yasinsac's pages are no less dead, and they have a similar feeling. NO ONE much goes there, though, and that makes me like them all the more.

Anyway, hats off to Messrs. Rinaldi and Yasinsac on their first-rate site."
